Meet Rae

Rae Parker

Hello, my name is Rae Parker. I am a lifelong resident of Rochester, Minnesota and a graduate of the Rochester Public School system. I have five children, all graduates of RPS. Three of my eight (soon to be nine) grandchildren are in RPS.

I recently retired from Mayo Clinic after forty six years of service. The last twenty years were spent in the cardiovascular department in ECHO performing heart ultrasound, after obtaining my degree as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer. My love of serving people extends to our community. In the past 30 years, I have volunteered with several organizations including Christmas Anonymous, and Friendship Place, where I helped ESL children with homework. I taught in Vacation Bible school and Sunday school. I have also volunteered at the  Salvation Army and many other community service capacities.

I am concerned about the future of our community and the outlook for our children. I am passionate about helping people, especially children, because children are our future. They deserve the best education, safe environment, and equal opportunities at excelling, that we can provide for them. All children should have an equal opportunity to grow into a productive, well-balanced citizen.

Seeing the significant change in focus from when I went to school and the situations my grandchildren face now in schools, led to my decision to run for school board. As a school board member, I would not condone the use of pornographic-style sex education books. I would promote policies that support teachers and stops the chaos in the classrooms. We should be teaching students how to master “the basics” of reading, writing, civics, math and science and to reclaim the true and historical mission of our schools. The school board must also be fiscally responsible by balancing the budget with a transparent and accountable plan.

Parents and the community deserve transparency for what happens in schools. I will share solid plans for emergencies and curriculum as well as any changes that affect your student or teachers. Communication with teachers, students, parents and community will allow all voices to be heard. As a school board member, together with the three other candidates, of our slate of 4, we will work to ensure parents, students and teachers the opportunity to work together to make changes for the good of all our children. There is no room for politics or promoting personal agendas in the classrooms. There will be no tolerance for racism or any discrimination in our schools. We will be united to teach the academics the children are sent here to learn.

Please come out to vote for School Board Candidates Rae Parker, seat #2, Kim Rishavy seat #5 Elena Niehoff seat #6, AND John Whelan seat #4 in the general election on November 8th. Thank you!
