My name is Elena Niehoff and I’m on the November 8th general election ballot for Rochester school board seat 6. I am a wife, mother and grandmother. I love my family and this beautiful country. I’m running for the School Board member position for I.S.D. 535, Rochester Public School District.
I was born in Russia and moved to Ukraine when I was five years old. My family and I immigrated to United States from Ukraine in 1998 and a few years later, I swore an Oath of Allegiance to support and protect the Constitution and laws of United States at my naturalization ceremony and became a citizen of this great country.
The United States gave me an opportunity to achieve my dreams. I earned an Associate Degree in Nursing through Rochester Community College and a Bachelor Degree in Nursing through Winona State University. I am a certified Public Health Nurse. During my career I worked at Mayo Clinic and several Home Health Care organizations. I volunteered at the Salvation Army and served on the board of Salvation Army for one year.
I feel this experience gives me a unique perspective. First, I have a great appreciation of our country because I saw the stark contrast between a free society and socialism. In my opinion, socialism is not about free stuff given by the government but relentless and concerted agenda of removing the God given rights from people including His gifts of sovereignty and free will.
Because of my background, I can relate to the immigrant children’s experience. I want to give back to our community and help all children reach their full potential. I am passionate about providing equal opportunity in education to all children and restoring discipline in our schools. Many parents have expressed concerns over the growing violence in our schools. As a school board member, I will advocate for policies that will provide the tools and support teachers need to maintain discipline and a constructive and safe learning environment.
Minnesota Statute 2021 120A.22 Sub.1 states clearly that it is the responsibility of the parent to choose the knowledge which their children are to acquire at the public school. My vision to improve education is to strengthen parental rights over curriculum and the decision-making process in schools and to support teachers and families.
I am part of the slate of four running for the school board positions in District 535 of Rochester, MN. Please vote for us to bring conservative values and lasting changes back to our schools.
